Default laptop keeps turning off ? ? ?

Power lead kept in, on a table (so fan isn't blocked) but after 25/35 mins the laptop, without any warning turns off.
Straight away, just off.

Anyone have any ideas why?

Any help would be great

Thanks Adam

the laptop turns off, no warning.

Then when i turn it back on, 2-5 secs later it goes through the start up checking files because it wasn't shut down proberly.

Poxy thing

Not checked the power options but will in a tic, but i don't think this is the problem.

Sounds like a virus. One of my mates had the same thing with my old laptop when he bought it. It was fine when i sold it to him but started playing up with him. Apparantly is was a virus and got in through his dsl connection. He updated the copy of norton i think and the problem was solved.

Is this running off the battery? Or the Mains? If the Battery, then maybe you have a loose fitting battery. Or a Knackered one.
If the mains. Then is the power connector snuggly fitting to the socket on the laptop?

Just a thought. Had this problem on a work laptop, turned out the fan wasnt working properly so the CPU was getting hot and shutting itself down to prevent damage.

Could also be a fault with the motherboard.

Thanks for your replies.

This happened 4 times and hasn't done it since my 1st post.

The last time it happened i did blow the inlet fan as there was a bit of dust about, whether that had anything to do with it i don't know.

Anyway, working fine now........touch wood

Thanks

Adam

just had this myself at work with a dell inspiron, was the cpu fan kept on sticking so the cpu would overheat and shut down.
Had it all cleaned up (dont know if they changed the fan though) and now works a treat again

My first guess would be it's heat related.

dust is a killer around fans + heatsinks - especially if in a smokey environment
