Default Laptop Fans

Guys,

My toshiba laptop (satellite Pro series) is getting to the point of driving me mad.

Ask it to do something not terribly complicated and the fecking fan comes on.

For example I open up explorer, browse to this forum and click new thread, and as I type right now the fan is on.
I have two other applications running, both of which are idle anyway.
Outlook is one, the other is a development tool we use.

Why is it doing this?

Thanks,

Shaun

IIRC Lappy fans come on when reaching a certain temperature. I dont remember them being that noisy.
They do get warmer a lot quicker if there is no air to circulate underneath.

or yours needs a good clean and maybe fan replacing.

You need to make sure that plenty of cool air can get into the fan,try to raise the laptop up abit from the desk or where ever you have it sat.

Even when its on, the unit does not feel particulary warm.

Some BIOS have an option that when the CPU and or system board reaches a certain temperature it will crank up the fan. Have you checked your BIOS for this feature?

Fans can be finicky things, but I agree with Foot Tapper, perhaps the fan needs a clean. Ive had a problem like this before, the fan ended up so bunged that my processor used to heat up and shut the machine down, only used to run for about 15 minutes at a time.

Some machines use system load to drive the fan instead of temperature. Yes it is annoying.
