ok i have the pimped version on my xbox. linked in via 108 MB wireless to my main pc and am sharing all my video files. problem is that when i pick the video or audio file it plays for 5 mins approx and then stops. i have set all the caches to max size but i am doing something fundamentally wrong. frigged if i can think of what it is. can anyone shed any light.

cheers

I run CCXGui (a Graphic-interface of the media streaming software CCXStream) on the PC I host my media. Works very well indeed with no bottlenecking or stalling anywhere

I run exactly the same version of XMBC, which works very well streaming DivX, MP3s or even VOBs, etc. over 54Mb 802.11g using a standard SMB share (which I believe is what is recommended as the 'best' method of streaming over LANs).

No problems at all - which I know doesn't help.... but it certainly should work.

I had stop/start jerkiness issues over 802.11b, but swapped out and made the network 100% 11g and all is fine...

Are you connecting using an SMB share, or something else?

bring the cache level up in media centre and watch what that it's doing ? it sounds to me like you have a connection speed problem.

hmmmm........caches all set to maximum atm. i have checked the connection and all seems fine. strange that it is both video and music files that do the same. i have a netgear mimo wireless router and am using a smc 108g wireless bridge. firmware in both are up to date. can't think of anything else. maybe try one of the xbox forums as well.

Try dropping it to 802.11g at 54mbps and see if the stuttering goes away. May sound strange, but I've seen issues before with 108.

Try blowing away the XBMC , and its cache files ( not the video cache , xbmc retained settings cache ) and install a newer version , cvs builds are released almost daily ....

sorry not the settings cache but the on the fly one you can get up by pressing select I think. It shows a cache level of max 80% on my xbox when all is well. this will teel you if it's a connection problem.
