Bought one of these last week, instructions are crap.
Does my 360 need to be on for this to charge, i mean switched on at the console and not just the plug?
Because if the console needs to be on its a pain, and also to charge it and keep it "topped" up, then surely im going to be playing for ages just to charge it up obviously connected, so really the wireless controller ........isnt ;-) ...i will be spending most of the time with it connected! which kind of defeats the object doesnt it?

You need it connected to the console and the console turned on to charge it up, (same with any usb device). I usually charge mine once a week / fortnightly (depending on how much I've use it), and it usually only takes a couple of hours or so to charge from flat...

"Play and Charge"
not
"Sitting on the side, console turned off to charge"
Personlly, I find it easier to just use rechargable batteries. Always have some on standby (charge 4 at a time) so never have to worry about the dreaded red flashing quadrant

:-)
Yeah yeah Neanderthal, thats what im getting at, as quite often now i only play for 2 hrs at the most, so when it comes round to charging, im going to have to leave it all switched on or it will take weeks of my 2 hr sessions to charge it!....so that means weeks of it not being wire..............less ;-)

The battery does still charge when the console is switched off , as long as its connected (mine does anyway). I know this because the fan is still operating on the console but none of the lights are on. Its as if it goes into some kind of 'standby' mode.

The fans can stay on for a while after you turn the 360 if the console has gotten hot during use. This ensures that the console is cooled down correctly, and during this time the usb ports are still powered. They should shut off after a while once the internal temperature has decreased sufficiently. When this happens, the power to the usb ports will be disconnected.

plug in the play and charge kit when the 360 is on and the red charge LED lights up ,then power down the console via the menu blade and the Red LED stay's on until it's charged.
I've only ever charged my controller when the console is off give it a try

when you turn off the 360 with the play and charge kit plugged in it goes on to a trickle charge the fan will still be working untill the battery is fully charged then it will switch itself off completly.

See, this is what i was getting at! the instructions do not clearly explain !, surely someone at Microsoft can bloody sort some instructions out that actually tell you how to use the product thats been bought !

That's weird. Mine definitely does not do that. I tried it again last night.
The joypad is connected with the play & charge kit, and the red light is on indicating that it is charging. I press the power button on the console (or via the blade on the dashboard), and everything instantly powers off, including the light on the play & charge kit.
