Hi all, just bought a laptop with intel centrino wireless card etc and a wireless router, now the wireless router arrived not working so i decided to put my RJ45 lead from my cable modem into the laptop to get online......this is where the problems started, the laptops broadcom card will only show limited connectivity when plugged in but the stand alone pc will have no worries at all, I am running a netgear FA311 fast ethernet card in the pc and that connects straight into cable access but once its pulled out and put into the laptop I get the limited connectivity ballon pop up the laptop screen.
However I have taken the laptop to work and plugged it into our ADSL network and it connects straight in, so it likes the adsl but has problems with the cable network....
Any ideas??
Cheers
Andy

Sounds like your cable modem may have been paired with your PC, that's why your PC works OK and the Laptop and the wireless Router are having problems. The laptop is reporting limited connectivity, because it can see a valid connection but the cable modem won't talk to it (because it's not paired with it's network card (MAC address)). As you say your laptop works OK at work, because your broadband connection there will not need to be paired.
I get my broadband through an NTL set top box and before I can access the web it has to be paired with a PC or the router that's connected to it.
To do the pairing you'll probably need the MAC address (Physical Address) of your laptops network card, which you can get by going to a command prompt and typing 'ipconfig /all'. As you discussed your laptop has both RJ45 and Wireless, so when you do the ipconfig, you'll find 2 MAC addresses.
PM me if you need more help.
Cheers.

Got problem sorted by buying a wireless cable router which changed the static IP address. DHCP was the settings that the router changed it to and after a bit of playing it was sorted, now got cable internet sharing and file and print sharing etc
