XP Pro, Samsung 120gb SATA formatted NTFS bought Jan 2004.

I had a failed backup Sunday night, so this morning I ran a defrag & checkdisk which gave several errors.

"File record segment x is unreadable" (where x=21888 up to 21891)

Also theere were 2 errors in the index location 21878 which were deleted.

Is the disk on it's way out?

Edit: Apart from the backup failure, the pc appears to work fine.

Yep sounds like u have a few badblocks there. A format is the only way to be sure. Of course if it cant format it, you'll be left with an unuseable disc.

try going to the samsung website im sure they have software so you can scan and check your hd
