RAM Question for gaming rigs
Please be aware I am no pc genius :P
During installation of a game, well basically it wouldnt install, so I took 1 stick of 512 ram out and the game installed perfectly. After the install I tried to put the ram back and the machine wouldnt boot, took the ram back out and it worked fine. I put this down to bad ram and thought no more of it.
When there is lots of activity online (online based game) my fps drops a little, is this down to only having 512 ram now, pc is amd 3200+ 64bit processor, radeon 9800xt 256mg graphics card.
If the answer is yes and I need more ram, do I need to pay through the nose for corsair ram or will other 3200ddr ram be sufficient?
Thanks.

try taking the good stick out and insert the suspect stick. if the game runs/computer boots then it may be a faulty simm slot. i am assuming both sticks are matched memory coz if not they will not work. certain memory configuration on mobos will not work either.
you could also run memtest getting it from here to test the ram. this will test the memory to see if it fails at any stage. you could also think about upping the DDR voltage by 0.1v (if your mobo allows this, most new ones do) as this might make it a bit more stable

big sinky
