Connecting New Playstation to PC Problems (LAN) help required.
Got a crossover cable attached via the ethernet/LAN ports between PC and PS2. (new slimline one with built in adapter)
Automatically assigned (DCHP) settings result in a "limited or no connectivity" warning, Repair fails... so I manually configured my pc's settings instead
Looked on my ISP's website for the "gateway" settings, found this
Current Status : You are now using a static IP address
Static IP: 80.229.228.102
Netmask: 255.255.255.255
Looked on my ISP's website for the DNS settings, this is what it says,
Other settings for manual connection
Primary DNS Server 212.159.13.49
Secondary DNS Server 212.159.13.50
Optional tertiary DNS server 212.159.6.9
So in my PC's LAN connection (TCP/IP Properties) I have got:
IP = 192.168.0.1
Mask = 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = 80.229.228.102
DNS Servers,
Primary = 212.159.13.49
Secondary= 212.159.13.50
Is that correct???
When I detect network settings on the ps2 it doesn't find a connection.
If I manually configure it. it manages to light the first box green and then fail on the second as "DNS tests failed"..
PS2 settings are as follows,
"Auto detected" the duplex/full duplex setting.
PPPoE was "NO" as my ISP is PPP over ATM VCMUX
DHCP was "NO"
IP = 192.168.0.2
Mask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 80.229.228.102
Auto DNS "NO"
Primary = 212.159.13.49
Secondary= 212.159.13.49
HELP
I know nothing.

Is your LAN like this:
DSL/Cable modem --> PC <-- PS2
If so I guess you're using something like Internet Connection Sharing on the PC. The PS2 needs to use the PC's IP address for the "Gateway" so it should be 192.168.0.1
Hope this helps,
Alex
windoze firewall is off and temporarily Panda Platinum firewall/virus protection also off (just in case
)
Details of fail are;
DNS Resolve failed,
No response from Server.(2)

Done...
Purchased a "zoom X5" 4 port router, ADSL modem, Gateway, firewall combo box thingy
Cured all my problems, even down to the laptop that has never worked on the ethernet port when connected via a crossover cable to my desktop.
All cables are now straight cat6 ethernet cables.
