No WRC4 is the best playable game and Richard Burns Rally is the most accurate but can be a little frustrating to actually be fun For a blast you can't beat rallysport challenge 2 on the xbox The car sounds and power are excellent Colin McRae rally has had it's day and is now only a patched up version of McRae 3

Yeah; Richard Burns Rally is the best rally simulator - not sure if that would fit the description of best rally game.
You really need a decent wheel with force-feedback and a lot of time (unless you're a pro-rally driver already!)
It's brilliant though. It's a shame there isn't a track editor, although there is a lot going on right now to 'reverse engineer' the track format.

(anyone get the feeling I like this game?)

Glad this thread came up After doing the Bill Gywnne Rally Day, I wanted to get a decent game for my PC. I've got the wheel and peddles, so which should it be - WRC4 or RBR??

RBR. Honestly, it acts like a real car (not that I've ever driven any rally car apart from a prepared escort).
There's even rally school lessons, and the chance to hack around a 'car park' like a holigan, without trolleys/shoppers/old bill etc. to worry you.
And, I think that wrc is playstation only?

Just to give you an idea of the depth of the sim, here's a bit extracted from deep within the physics engine; this bit relates to wheels. As you can imagine, there are lots of bits you can tweak (via menus; this stuff is well hidden)...
wheel contains mount geometry, tyre, sping and damper info:
Wheel
____ wheel ( x 4)
____ ____ Do Suspension Sweep 0 (????)
____ ____ inverse wheel mass
____ ____ debug ID
____ ____ is steered (1 or 0)
____ ____ wishbone length
____ ____ vector for joint mount VF (???)
____ ____ vector for joint axis VF
____ ____ vector for steering mount VF
____ ____ vector for steering axis VF
____ ____ vector for drive axle joint position VF
____ ____ vector for strut rod mount SF
____ ____ vector for strut hub point SF
____ ____ vector for strut hub axis SF
____ ____ strut dimension (x axis)
____ ____ strut dimension (z axis)
____ ____ drive axle mount offset
____ ____ wishbone sign (vector direction)
____ ____ steering sign (vector direction)
____ ____ anti roll bar ID
____ ____ anti roll bar slot
____ ____ vector for top mount deform up axis RF
____ ____ vector for top mount deform side axis RF
____ ____ top mount max deformation sideways
____ ____ top mount max deformation up
____
____ ____ spring damper
____ ____ ____ Inner bump rubber position
____ ____ ____ outer bump rubber position
____ ____ ____ damping bump rubber
____ ____ ____ bump rubber stiffness
____ ____
____ ____ tyre properties
____ ____ ____ Debug ID
____ ____ ____ carcass stiffness lateral
____ ____ ____ carcass stiffness torsional
____ ____ ____ reference friction
____ ____ ____ hub offset
____ ____ ____ carcass width
____ ____ ____ carcass radius
____ ____ ____ tread depth
____ ____ ____ tread width

I bought RBR when it came out and found it to be the most frustrating game ever. It took me about a week to get any decent times. Anyhoo with the imminent release of GT4 I think I will invest in a steering wheel, which hopefully should help my times on RBR also. So any suggestions as to what wheel to get.
Sorry for hijacking the thread btw.

I have one of these;

Not the best, but cheap and decent enough.

RBR on XboX is brilliant. V frustrating at first but then you get hooked as you get faster.
Reminds me of grand Prix Legends when I first got that..until I mastered it

Now dont shout at me for saying this......
The best Rally Sim is RBR without a doubt.
If you are having difficulty with it, it is probably because you cant actually drive Or should I say you are too used to driving arcade style games, so when it comes down to real physics you dont adjust too well.
I have been reliably informed that should you become competant in RBR then you should be able to drive in a similar fashion in a real car, it is that realistic.
Regards,
Shaun.

I think this is one of those 'down to opinion' things...
i bought RBR, played it once on my bro's xbox, and after an hour, i was frustrated with it. didnt find it enjoyable.
so,. i bought a ps2
i got wrc 3, cm3? and i bought cm2004
im sure some of the stages on the cm 's are the same (australia), which is dissapointing...but never lees, i like them.
wrc, the graphics are awesome, but for some mad reason, i actually feel sick when im sat in front of the tv playing it ...... maybe the graphics were too good, refresh rates??...i dont know....maybe someone else can explain it..
So for me, CM2004 gets my vote.......although true, cm2 takes some beating.

To get the most out of RBR you need to be using a decent force feedback wheel.
I've got it on the Xbox and PC. On the Xbox with just the hand controller, it was average, on the PC with my MOMO force feedback wheel it's awesome.

RBR is £17.99 brand new for Xbox from Gameplay.
RBR is a great game, it is hard at first but once you realise how to drive it, it becomes excellent. I dont think the depth is brilliant - i.e. number of courses, or feeling like you are competing against anyone, but the actual physics are superb and getting a scandi flick just right is very rewarding
