Default Be first to touch Nintendo DS!

Have you been collecting your nintendo stars? do you have over a 1000?

If you do you better go quick! cause nintendo europe are releasing 3000 limit edition Nintendo DS before the europe release date, which is in middle March!

For £129.99 (including vat - so even cheaper for me, since I live in Jersey!) and 1000 stars, you get the following :

Nintendo DS Sytem, with built-in PictoChat
Super Mario 64 DS
Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt (demo)
Wario Ware Touched! (demo)

..and my fav! an exclusive Nintendo DS T-Shirt :dancing:

I have bought one, should be down within two weeks ... now do I keep it, or slap it on ebay for a quick profit

Be quick, hardly any left and the site is really running slow! http://www.nintendo-europe.com

Must admit from what Ive seen the PSP looks in a different league. I hope this doesnt mean the beginning of the end for Nintendo ala Sega.

You mean those who find it too hard to admit that someone else built a better handheld? Nintendo havent had any real competition in this market for a long time so its about time someone stepped in.

Ive always had a soft spot for Nintendo from Duck Hunt on the NES to Mortal Kombat on the SNES and Goldeneye on the N64 (lets not mention the cube). So I dont want them to go under but that doesnt stop me admittting Sony have beat them at their own game. Just like they did with the PSX, PS2 and no doubt PS3.

Sony PSP is a superior machine, superior games period.

If I want a childs toy I'll go to the early learning centre.

The Nintendo DS is only £99, which for the money is pretty good. A Sony PSP will probably be closer to £300. Anybody who grew up in the 80's must surely remember the Game and Watch toys from Nintendo which the DS is obviously similar to.

PSP will be around £200 with 1 game when it lands here.

I paid £230 for my imported one with 1 game and the extras that are in the value pack (case, strap, duo card, headphones)

most sites think march but I still think it's a little too quiet for it to launch then

Its closer to £200 at the moment, price on launch I dont know, PSP will be £180 on UK launch I know what I'll go for.

Yep I owned and remember the original game and watch, even the dual screen donkey kong, they were fantastic but they were without rivals, sony will kick their ***, simple!

The two products are very different. They are not designed to compete against each other. One is a dual screened N64 for £99, the other is a PS2 in a handheld for roughly £200+.

Why people insist on making them competitors I don't know. The only common ground between them is that they are hand held.

The two are different technolgies.

One is 'old technology' N64

One is 'new technology' PS2

One is £200+

One is £99

One has 2 screens

One has a single widescreen, hi-res panel

One plays movies

One has touch screen

As you can see, they are VERY DIFFERENT. They are NOT competing necessarily for the same market and age range of gamers. There are those that will buy both. There are die hard Ninty fans that will only buy the DS.
Hence the reason I said the two can't be compared. They are too different.

Would you compare an Ipod with an Archos AV420? The Ipod plays MP3 (and now photo's) The Archos plays MP3, MP4 and displays photos. The IPod is a one trick pony compared to the Archos.
People will buy which the want the most, prefere or have the most brand loyalty too.

So there you go. The reasons they shouldn't be classed as competitors

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12..._media_add-on/

not in competition but they feel the need to make a media module for the DS

So there you go. The reasons they should be classed as competitors.

There's been movie players available for the GBA. So the alledged report by the Register is nothing special.

It still stands that the two product are very different. The PSP is designed with movies and 'next gen' games in mind.

Why must things always be competing against each other? Nintendo still have the next Gameboy to finish and unveil. That is what is most likely to be set to challenge the PSP.

If the DS had GC graphics then they could and should be classed as competitors, specially as the price point would be similar.

I agree with most of what your saying but, these two machines will hit the shop floors at the same time. For the majority of folks both will be games only. Video on PSP is for the computer literate only at the moment. This may change when sony release the English version of the software.

Yes the PSP can play MP3's and I like keeping pictures on my PSP because I'm away from home a lot. But for the most part it's a games machine.

I agree with you. I think the DS should have been released alot sooner over here than it has been. Ninty may have problems but I doubt it. The price point is spot on, considering how well the SP has sold. The DS has shipped millions in the US and Japan. For £90 pounds alot of people and die hard Ninty fans will go for it.

Sony will obviously get their fanboys but also alot of other generally more older people buying the PSP. First because they can affored it and because they recognise the advantages of the PSP over the DS.

I think ultimately if Nint had released early, people would have said they were scared of Sony. Releasing it at the same time as the PSP they are seen to be going 'head to head' with Sony. With a product such as the DS it is a little unfortunate. It just isn't a PSP rival. Not in hardware or viewing ability.

For the record, I want a PSP. (But can't afford one no job.) The DS is more of a curiosity to me. No doubt I will get one in the end.

P.S. It's nice to be able to have a discussion where insults aren't thrown around. Scoobynet seems increasing incapable of doing that nowadays.
