Question athlon 64 bit board and xp cpu compatibility

Hey folks

Trying to help someone out by testing a system they have built, narrowed a problem down to the motherboard or cpu, want to try rule out the cpu before sending the board back.

The board is an Athlon 64 bit board and I want to try a althlon xp 1500+ in it.

Will this work? I'm not sure if the chipsets compatible, if it doesn't work could it cause any damage?

Cheers!

'Tis a totally different CPU platform; it will not fit. The old XP chip is socket A.

The Athlon 64 CPUs are in avaliable in two different socket types; Socket 754/Socket 939.

What's the problem?
Did the machine ever boot?

If not, check the 4-pin molex is connected to the board as well as the usual 24-socket power plug.

AMD chips didn't used to use this but the 64-bit chips do.

Thanks for the replys folks.

Checked it out and nothing was being displayed on the screen although power light showing on the mobo, the 4 pin power connector was in as I built an athlon 64 bit system myself so I checked that.

A different graphics card was tried to no avail and a computer repair shop suggested a faulty processor this was why my mate wanted to try another processor. It seems they are sending back the motherboard and the cpu so the issue has gone away for now! it may return when they get replacements if there are compatibility issues!

Cheers for now! I may well query again in a week if the problem arises again!

What motherboard is it? I had a faulty MSI K8N Neo that displayed similar problems.
