I can't leave my computer on Stand By for more than a short period of time and the bloody thing starts up again.

It seems to wake up because of Broadband and activity On line. If I disconnect the plug to the modem, which is impractical, I can use Stand By.

Whilst I want the benefit of being connected to the Nett when using the PC I don't need the connection when on Stand By.

Any ideas how to overcome this phenomena please or am I missing something here?

 

Is your PC set up to auto check for mail every so often? Or to search for updates (Windows, Virus, Firewall etc?). I think i'm right in saying that if this is the case, Windows will come out of standby when the relevant time comes - maybe try disabling any auto updates?

Just a suggestion - i'm sure it'll get blown out of the water by someone else though
