Default Aldi PDA & Sat Nav

Just picked up the Aldi GPS Sat Nav PDA offer for 270.

What a cracking bit of kit - highly recommended!

Tempting. Is the PDA a normal Pocket PC type affair. There isn't much info on the Aldi web site.

Its from their own brand Medion, I've had a desktop system of theirs for a year and thats great too, all named branded hardware inside etc.

This PDA (handheld PC ) is a 266mhz Samsung processor with 64MB onboard mem and an SD/MMC card slot which you run the sat nav from. Other cards will allow wireless lan, or more memory to upload films onto etc. The OS is Pocket PC.

Nice bit of kit and worked straight out of the box

Thanks, I found some more info on the Medion.co.uk web site, trying to sort out a direct link but it's one of those funny script generated sites that make it difficult to give direct links.

I would say no Bluetooth though, would expect it to be a bit more expensive if it was. Has infa red but that's about it.

I think I'll pop into Aldis on the way home tonight for a closer look.

Nope, no bluetooth but then I have no other bluetooth stuff and don't mind the hardwired sat nav. You can get a wireless lan MMC card to surf at home on it over the waves

Cool

This wouldn't be the same GPS/PDA that Halfords are selling for a mere £399.99?

How on earth do Aldi do it?

There's a 5.25 MegaPixel (including 128MB memory card) for a mere £179.99 from next week n'all!!!

Wow!!!

How on earth do Aldi do it - I expect they screw third world labour, although so do 99.9% of other retailers but Aldi probably take less of a cut!

The PDA offer started yesterday however my local Aldis had sold out by the time I got there in the evening. The chap I spoke to said they sold them all within 1hr of the store opening but he did take my phone number and said they should be getting some more in and would let me know when they arrive

Thumbs up

Yippee... got one. No Aldi's in my neck of the woods so I asked my Mum who lives in the Midlands to drop into her Aldi and have a look. She went down first thing thismorning as soon as doors opened, bless her, and there was a single one left which is now waiting for me. (Once I pay her back!)

Anyway don't give up hope, ring a few stores especially the ones in pikey areas where most peoples cars don't cost £270 You may get lucky

Anyway big thanks to Scoobyjawa for the heads up, nice 1 m8.

Cool

Cool, you can add speed camera locations to the maps and get warnings too, if you get an extra bit of software for about £20. See here for some info http://www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk/uksa...-poiwarner.php

Went to the local Aldi yesterday and not a sniff even the staff didnt know about it

Phoned Aldi and was told to go back to local store and get them to find out if and when they may get them in, and if not they would tell you the nearest store would stock them it was busy so didnt bother

I'll pop it maybe Tuesday as see thats going on

Cheers Nick

Its a samsung 266 processor, equivalent processing power to the 400mhz procs found in the Ipaq's. Runs the Sat Nav, and everything else I've chucked at it fine!

And yes, you can upload speed camera info into it along with many other points of interest

Nope - its fine, working a treat. I've also installed POI Warner now and added the UK Speed Camera database so I get 2 timed warnings as I approach cameras! You can also tell it to warn you as you go 5, 10, 15, 20 etc miles an hour over the speed limit

Been playing with my PDA all week

just to let you guys know TOMTOM 3 is much better that the Medion Navigator, got a copy with all europe maps on and lots of POI's including speed cameras and also the checkpoint program to alert you to cameras.

TomTom lets you put your own POI's in and you cna down load every Mcd's KFC ect.

If anyone is after a copy I got the lot of ebay for £25.00, can send you the guys email address if you want a copy

I just got the PC World deal of Ipaq 2210 and Tom Tom 3 for 299 - another bargain I couldn't pass up - dad's having the Aldi. Only coz the 2210 has the dual card slot really - theres hardly any difference in speed on either, and both bit of Navi software have their own + and -

Both cracking IMHO
