Unhappy Is this a virus?

Somethings managed to take over my choice of websites a couple of weeks ago and the only way I`ve managed to get back on here is via a link. I can only get on a few sites like Autotrader,Google and a couple of others, everything else I type in the address bar gets changed to this paticular website I don`t want to be on, as it`s loading. I`ve tried allsorts of things. Deleting cookies, files, history, everything but no, the bloody thing`s still there. Tried AVG and that can`t find it. Can I do anything without backing everything up and reinstalling the OS? Just hope I can get back on here when I come off. Surely it`s a trojan horse but some form of helper file so can`t be found as a virus?

Almost without a doubt it's a hijacker and or re-director.
Sounds bad but not really
Get yourself copies of "Adware" and "Spybot" they are free. Run them and they will sort you out.
