Unhappy Memory Problems

I am running Windows ME and since we installed AOL broadband we have been getting messages telling us we are low on memory. So I went ahead and fitted a second 256 MB Dimm. The computer shows that we have now have 512 MB memoray however we are still getting the same messages for low memory.

Can anyone give me some advice in laymans terms as to how I may be able to fix the problem ?

Try a clean up with ad-aware or spybot and check out what progs are running in the background "ctrl+alt+del" and delete wot u dont use, if that dont fix it then i think a format is in order. ME is a bit old now, why not try an upgrade to XP, usually fixes your kind of problem.

OK

Maybe it's a compatability issue between AOL & another memory resident programme. Try unloading as much in the system tray as you can.

Just a thought - did the problem happen immediately you loaded the AOL software, of after you had been connected online for a while? If you don't have a firewall - you could have been zapped by something.

Do the test first by unloading as much software as possible, in the system tray you can usually right-click & choose exit. Look at start, programs, start-up & see if anything is in there.

Make sure your anti virus is up to date. Make sure you have a firewall installed. Download & run the free Adaware from www.lavasoft.de
