I'm after some advice really, I was made redundant just before Xmas, from a Support managers role, and am looking for a new direction. I have spoken to some old clients from my old company, and they are keen that I do some consultancy for them, and I have a few other offers of small VB/SQL/asp apps for other contacts.

Since I have never even thought about this before, can you give me some pointers of how you go about it (I am thinking, that for ease of starting, just going self employed, rather than setting up a company).
