Only if you subscribe to a net-to-fax service

Sorry this may be a thicko question but I thought a broadband line gave you effectively 2 lines so that you could use one as a telephone or fax line in the usual (pre-broadband) way? DL

Yes it does, but I think the point of Mick's question is: can you send a fax over the broadband bit (ie NTL cable connection, where you don't have a phone line)?

I interpreted it the way Chris describes - that he wants to send a fax via the Broadband connection

Yup... that's what I meant

Anyway AOL have now confirmed that you cannot use broadband to send a fax. You can use a fax-modem as usual to send a fax over the other part of the line. Makes sense I suppose, it's nothing to do with your ISP anyway now I come to think about it.

Thanks anyway guys...

Hi Mick

I think the AOL person got confused. If you want to fax over your Internet connection then as Fig said, you need to subscribe to a online service. Typical examples http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...+over+internet

Ah Ha!

I've just tested the TPC 'fax by email' service at www.tpc.int

It seems to be a free one too...

That certainly looks to be a start

cheers
