What sort of damage is this likely to do - how can I get rid of this?

 

First of all make sure that you are up todate with your virus definition files

I tried to find a virus removal tool from Symantec however they dont seem to have one for backdoor.blarul so i would suggest quarantining the virus until they do.

Your other option is to just delete the virus.

its only in your program files, find out which program is using it uninstall it then reinstall it
