i have installed a pioneer 105 dvd-rw & when i try to play a movie in power dvd the computer freezes & i have to switch it off and then reboot. any help or possible solutions would be appreciated. thanks fellas.

Check that 'DMA enabled if available' is selected in the hardware profile, found in device manager.

checked the above and it is on the dma setting. the dvd-rw is on master & cd-rw is on slave, also have tried these in every other possible combination including cable select but is exactly the same. could it be a problem with the bios on my system as it worked perfect on cable select on my hp system. now this new one is a dell 8300 dimension. any ideas fellas.

Try copying the movie to your hard drive and playing it from there.

If it plays okay then look at your drive again.

Also, try playing through Windows Media Player, I had a problem similar to yours and I de-installed and re-installed Power DVD and it resolved it.
