Printer problem
My PC (Windows 95) isn't talking to my printer (Epson Stylus 640). The last thing the printer did was print a picture with a strip appearing on each of about 10 pages.
I've checked the cable and deleted and re-loaded the driver, to no avail.
Any suggestions (apart from bin the whole lot)?

Assuming you've checked that there are no lights flashing on the printer to indicate that the ink has run out, or paper is jammed in it then try the it basically sends data direct to the printer without any software or Windows intervention wotsoever.
Go into True DOS Mode (shutdown and restart in DOS Mode)
Type cd \windows
copy win.ini lpt1
Basically this copies a reasonable size file directly to the parallel port.
If it comes up device error then either the printer is not plugged in, there is something wrong with your parallel port or there is something wrong with the printer.
If it works, then the hardware is all ok and it is something software related within Windows.
Obviously this isn't gonna fix your printer, but it will at least indicate whether the fault is hardware or software related.
