help please - access broadband from 2nd PC on wireless network
My main PC connects to my broadband via 1. Wireless card 2. Wireless Access point 3. DSL Router.
My main PC is connecting without any problem.
I've just got new notebook and it is connected to the wireless network, but how do I get it on the Net.
Both OS's are XP Pro, both have DLink 54 Mbps wirless card, access point is Dlink.
Cheers,
Leigh

Ummm.
That should be pretty straight forward.
I imagine your existing PC is picking up its IP address via the DHCP facility on your router. Take a look at the network settings on the pc and you should see that your IP address and DNS Server addresses are being obtained automatically.
If you open a command window on the PC with the internet working and type
ipconfig /all
this will display your network settings. You should see something similar to:
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : XXXXXXXXXX
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
Ethernet adapter Aspian LAN:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 3Com 3C920B-EMB Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : X.X.X.X
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : X.X.X.X
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : X.X.X.X
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : X.X.X.X
Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : XXXXXXXXXXXXX
there is a good chance if your are using the std config of your router your pcs IP address will be something along the lines of 192.168.0.X.
Go into the network setting on your laptop and take notes on what your IP address and DNS settings are (in case you need to change them back) - try choosing:
* Obtain an IP Address Automatically
* Obtain DNS server Address Automatically.
restart the laptop and type ipconfig /all to see what you have been given by your router.
