Need to build a second PC for general use. Could someone put a quick spec (including manufacturer/model) of parts required. AMD processor, 512 Ram, on board sound and graphics may be an option to save money. Looking to spend £300, allowing £60 for a decent case. CDRW. Upgradeable at a later date.

Cheers

Mike

Really want to build this myself and I'll probably buy the parts from Aria as I've had good service from them in the past. I'm really after advice on which motherboard, memory, CDRW, processor etc that offer good vale for money, reliability and performance.

Thanks
Mike

I built a PC for somebody before Christmas. Spec'd like this:

Asus A7N8X-X nForce2 400 Mobo - £45
Athlon XP2400 - £55 (Retail so heatsink / fan included)
256MB Crucial PC2700 DDR DIMM - £29
Samsung 80GB ATA Hard Disk - £41 (amazingly quiet)
PowerColour Radeon 9600SE 128MB - £58.50
Samsung CD-RW/DVD Combo (black) - £35
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard & Optical Mouse - £35
AOpen H500B ATX 300w Case - £51
Creative V92 Modem - £15

For more features on the mobo, the Deluxe version is £69.

If you're into games more, then a Radeon 9600XT at £99 would be a nice upgrade. Also another 256MB DIMM to allow the nForce to run in dual channel mode is a good buy if you have a spare £30.

Edit to say all prices ex VAT.
