Hello

Having finally got my X-Box chipped by someone who knows what he is doing (i.e. not me!) I must say that it's an amazing machine, and I haven't even loaded any, erm, "backup" games yet.

What I have done is transfered some DivX movies from my PC and they play perfectly on my TV, and played Project Gotham II. Wow.

Next on the list is to replace the hard drive...

Steve.

errr, am I being thick..... why don't you just play the videos on your PC instead? Has to be much better spec'd than an X-Box?

(for info I have an X-Bpx and think it's great, playing games etc on it)

Because its more sociable than sitting in front of your PC ?

Do you watch DVD's on your PC ? Personally, I prefer the comfort of my living room Its handy to be able to stream video and audio from the PC upstairs to the TV downstairs.

Question

A cheap player might not be able to play all those formats, but then again why would you want to?

Being an inanimate object I doubt very much that it would want to. I and other human beings, on the other hand, find it very useful.

Friends come over and you want to show them photos and videos ? Use the X-Box. Want to browse your movie or MP3 collection from your living room ? Use the X-Box . . . need I go on ?

I burn them onto dvd and make dvd movies / slideshows with scene selections etc.

Want to browse your movie or MP3 collection from your living room ?
Nope.

I only use mp3s at work for something to listen to on the computer whilst I'm coding away. Mp3s encoded at even the highest bitrate aren't as good quality as cd, so if I want to listen to something at home I use the original cd or sacd.

I must admit I'm tempted to get a second xbox, and chip it so that I can play the emulated games on the big telly though...

Hobo's right, the size limit has been cracked. Most of the latest bioses support have the LBA48 hack implemented. Which means you can now use any size HDD
