Not on a Sony, but I use my Panasonic (MiniDV) with a firewire cable. This allows the video to be streamed straight to the computer and saved as a MPEG.

Windows XP has Microsoft Movie Maker built in and that's all you need to use it.

 

Not got the firewire card yet just using the usb and the quality is crap ... just wanted to check with anybody using the usb that it is that bad

Are you cutting the video to dvd ?

USB streaming is very low bandwidth. You need to go to firewire to get full DV quality streaming.

 

agree usb is ****e, get firewire if possible, usb looks like vhs quality, therefore what is the point of having a DV camera if you only get VHS quality out of it

 

Cool .... just have to get my audigy sound card as quick as poss
