Question

Hi
Was surfing the 'net on my laptop last nite when the screen just went off.
The battery had been getting low so my first thought was that it had gone flat and shutdown, but then I noticed the power light was still light etc.
I managed to shutdown the laptop and then with it plugged into the mains adaptor turned it back on.
The screen stays blank, although I can just about make out the Windows XP logo on startup so its as if the "light" in the display isnt working.

Any ideas? Is the screen screwed or is it repairable?

Its a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo with a 15" sxga tft screen.

The display outputs ok to an external monitor that I'm now having to use.

Cheers,

Bob

If you can make out the logo it sounds like the backlight has gone.
There is usually an inverter feeding high power to that backlight, may be that the inverter has died.

So far I'm impressed with Fujitsu Siemens customer service...I cant find my purchase invoice and was expecting to need it for warranty purposes - I needn't have worried.

I got through to a UK based guy via a 0870 number (not a premium rate number like I expected!) and all I had to do was give the machine serial number and place of purchase. I was then transfered to the relevant department that wanted to collect my laptop today! I need to use it today so its being collected tomorrow instead!

Fingers crossed the rest of the process is as efficient

Was told its normally 5 working days from the couriers collecting the laptop. Have been given the direct phone number for them in case of any probs.
