Upgrade questions
Hi everybody!
Looking at doing a bit of upgrading and find myself a bit rusty on a couple of technical points. So thought I would check my plans with you guys..............
Looking at buying a new mobo, processor and memory
Probably will go for an intel 875 based mobo. What do the different letters after the number mean like "p" in a real world situation terms?
I intend to install a P4 3.0ghz processor (generation c) with hyperthreading. It seems all 875 chipsets support hyperthreading.
To make the most of the 800mhz front side bus I am planning to buy a pair of 256 or 512 (dependant on bank account) mb DDR 400s
As you can see. I'm looking for something quite nippy so I am keen not to make a stupid mistake in my purchases and cause a bottleneck. I don't want to spent stupid sums of money on memory but I read about the different cas latencies and started to get confused. I know lower is better and I think there are 3 numbers involved but what numbers should I be looking for, for the memory I buy?
Also what is the current intel recommendation for the wattage of the PSU for this system?
Cheers!

If you're going for hyperthreading, you're gonna need win XP (possibly pro) with SP1a too.
and what is the spec of the macine you're planning to upgrade - it would help if you let us know the starting point!
