Question

I've loaded on Windows 2003 Server, network and internet connectivity is fine, though I can't do very basic stuff like copy and paste.

It's doing other weird stuff too, like not letting me click on a url from within a post on Scoobynet (doesn't open the page, or do anything!)

I've got loads of stuff to copy on the machine from the backup, after I trashed it last week, but can't get the stuff on.

At the moment it is bog standard 2003 with no patches - have looked on Technet but can't see any service packs - am having trouble browsing through the Windows update site too with these weird problems.

Is there something easy I need to do, or would it be easier to start again with a re-install?

Re-installing isn't a big problem, as all that's on the machine is the opsys and Anti Virus Software. Having said that, I've no idea what I did wrong the first time round!

The copy and paste issue was one of the symptoms of MS blaster.

Check out the tutorials at any of the big AV companies sites to double check you haven't alredy succumbed.

May well have been that - the machine has been working a lot better since I've loaded on a Firewall.

Not sure how Blaster got on though - Virus Software DAT is 22/10/03 - this was running before I got on the net.

Presume it got on through a Windows vulnerability.

If it comes to it I'll re-install from scratch.

Cheers.

Yup - seems fine now. Got a firewall loaded and running, with all Windows Security Updates, and latest Anti Virus DATs. Everything is now working, including some odd browser issues which I hadn't attributed to MSBlast!

Serves me right going on the 'net without a firewall.

I had this, I also couldnt get the task bar to stay open, so i coulnd see what was running.

I downloaded a 3rd party taskmanager and it showed a trojan was running (4 hours after i first installed windows 2003) i was still installing programs on it

Strange thing was Norton 2003 did not detect a thing, i had to scan it from the TrendMicro AV scanner website ?

Once i killed it off everying went back to normal..
