Does any one kow how to do a syntax check on a php file?

only I have a php file that when executed it displays the page correctly but there is also a </ displayed and when I view the source it is at the end of the listing, however the finished page is a concoction of other page includes and I can't find the open tab on any of the pages. If it was perl it would be easy to find but how can I do the same syntax check on php.
