DV106-R + compatible media :-#
Scoobateers,
Anyone had any problems with the DV106-R and DVD re-writable media?
I've been trying to re-use some of my discs but they seem to either bomb out on an erase cycle or fail to read on other machines. I've hardly used them. The media is question is made by a company called 'Datawrite'. The website I purchased them from recommend these discs for this drive.
I use Nero to do a quick erase on the discs priors to re-use. This works ok on normal CDR's.
How many time can you re-use DVD-R's? I know CDR's can go upto 1000 times.
Any ideas?

Hi
CD-RW's need to be closed for non CD-RW drives to read them i'd assume the same for DVD-RW, I've not had any problems with Datawrites on my pioneer 106 except speed issue but writing at times 1 (.4) solved this, have you tried writing at slower speeds.

hi,
I've got a pack of green colour DVD-RW's which all appear to work ok bar one which is spit out when the system tries to write anything to it. Also if I need to write anything to the other discs I must perform a FULL erase (as opposed to a quick erase) in order to write anything to them.

i have loads of problems with both -rw and +rw once you have written to them a couple of times they have problems being read and crash
thats with a a05 pioneer, best thing is just write to the -r's and there is no problems

surley thats not right. Re-writable discs of any brand should be able to withstand upto 1000 re-writes. I think I might send a mail to datawrite.co.uk to see what there stance is on this problem.

I've got an a05 pioneer, and have used my dvd-rw rewritables loads of times (formatting and rewriting etc). Are you sure you're using the recommended brands of disc as that can make a HUGE difference (I use verbatim in mine).
If you go to blankdiscshop.com, the recommend which brands of discs to use for each writer....

datasafe are the ones im using for -rw but im using verbatim for the +rw and they are both as bad as each other , have stopped writing stuff to rw disks ages ago more hassle than its worth, as soon as a disk is put in a drive it slows my computer down, and they are for ever crashing nero and prassi

Hmm, I use easy cd/dvd creator (on three different machines). It seems stable enough, can rewrite to the media multiple times, and get no problems with crashing at all. Sounds like this might be a software problem rather than the cdrw media itself....
I'm at a bit of a loose end with this one. My bro has now told me that some of the discs I wrote a few weeks ago are now struggling to be read by any drive. Maybe the writer is at fault or maybe the media is duff??
My brother also told me he has upgraded the firware to 1.07 which is the latest version when I look at Pioneer's website.
I'm just doing some more tests on a new DVD-RW disc to see if this fails when I wipe it and try to re-write.
Do we thing the writing S/W can make a big difference (I'm using the latest Nero at present).
cheers

How do I find out the firmware version of a 106 under XP?
I took a BRAND NEW DVR-RW disc, wrote to it... and worked fine. No errors reported. Transfered disc to another machine to read.. also works fine.
However, if I erase the disc and re-write to it it bombs out near the end but appears to have written ok. If I try to access the disc on the same/different machine the event logs start populating with 'Bad Block detected' errors.
So is the media or drive as fault?
CD-RW still work fine, no matter how ofter I write to them.
