Providing you have a page called index.html or htm in the root of your Public_html folder or www folder or just the root then you will be ok.

If you called your index page something else then rename it index.html

Plus, for uploading - I think you can actually use your webrowser as your ftp and then drag and drop the files from your windows explorer I can on NLT so they should work the same.

Ive just spent the last 4 hours of my life creating a new website with 100mb of freeserve space.

But, the site isnt available on the server

Has anyone created one of these things? Have i not doing something that makes it available to view?

Have created the pages.
Uploaded them.
And registered them.

Does it take 24hrs or something before they are viewable (maybe for security reasons?)

Cool

the "mysite" bit in the URL is normally your username, ie...

www.yourusername.freeserve.com/scoobyney

Like John says they used to use your user name as the website name, so unless scoobynet is your user name that's why,if 'im talking bollox how did you upload your site onto freeserve servers.

I use http://uk.geocities.yahoo.com/ as I had similar problems with my ISP free area. However you get annoying pop up adds on Geocities and a size limit of 15MB if you choose the free options.

Ian

All the Answers that you need should be on the Freeserve help pages.

My site builder and FTP my site addresses

If you have created and uploaded your website using the My site builder or FTP my site tools then your web address is formatted in the following way:

http://mysite.freeserve.com/sitename

ie, www.mysite.freeserve.com/scoobynet

Which doesnt work :-|

This is my "attempt" and seems to work:

http://scoobystuff.mysite.freeserve.com/

Looks like you need to put an entry before the .mysite

Only problem now is that I have forgotten the e-mail address (not the one at bottom of home page) to update it.
Freeserve don't seem to be able to give it to me so the site is frozen forever and I'll have to do a new one.

Butty, i see yours is working. Ive just tried www.scoobynet.mysite.freeserve.com and mine STILL isnt showing.

Although, i now have a theory as to why

When creating the site i deleted the original Freeserve index page and inserted my own. Should i have just modified the original supplied index? Is this what you did?

Have you tried uploading your site just by using FTP to the Freeserve Servers?

http://www.username.freeserve.co.uk
The address of the FTP server for your Freeserve webspace is: uploads.webspace.freeserve.net

Rather than the mysite ones?

This may sound really dumb BUT i think it may be down to the fact i cant see/find the mysite FTP uploader that freeserve uses

So basically the site hasnt been uploaded but ive just spent the last 30mins searching the freeserve site for the bit that says "UPLOAD NOW" or whatever it should say.

Download a proper FTP client, and upload the site using that.

Getting nowhere fast it seems.

Ok, i got the server info from the Online Help.

sitebuilder.freeserve.com

then my email addy

plus my password

That should be enough right?

Well, i tried connecting using CUTE FTP and got this error message...

ERROR:> Can't connect to remote server. Socket error = #10060.
ERROR:> Failed to establish data socket.

Any ideas? Is this a freeserve problem?

 • "The "User Name" field should contain the email address you used to register with Freeserve My site builder and the "|" character followed by the site name you selected: eg.william@shakespeare.freeserve.co.uk|sonnets (The | character can be achieved by Shift and \ on PC and Shift Alt L on Mac)".
 • For the password field, type in your normal Freeserve My site builder password.
 • Then connect to the Internet with Freeserve and click the "Connect" button on theNew FTP Server dialog.

Are all the details as above? e.g. username|sitename?

If you are usign SMartFTP or CuteFTP make sure the box that says
"Force IP for Passive" is NOT ticked...., as depending on the firewall freeserve use, this will block connections and give you that error.
