PC just went bang
#1
I moved house a few weeks ago, and just got around to setting up my spare PC (P3 500MHz). I plugged in the power lead, and whilst preparing the keyboard there was a loud bang, then a puff of smoke from the PSU fan!!!
Instant reaction was that the voltage selector had got switched to 115V, but no still on 230V. After dismantling it appeared to be a blown capacitor.
I got out the spare PSU, that I happen to have in the cupboard, put it in the PC. This time plugged in the power, this time no bang, but more of a loud pop. This time the voltage switch was set to 115V!!
Luckily this time it was just the fuse in the PSU, and the PC is now working.
Can anybody recommend a good brand of PSU (very quite and 400W+) as I had plans for the spare one and will now need to replace it.
Hopefully they won't be asking me to work on any hardware at work this week, or it could get expensive.

Just bought a cheapy one from here: http://www.techstore.co.uk/
Got the 400W QTEC jobby which is pretty cheap. I need to chill my system down with some case fans before I get the full benefit of the quiet mode (my PC is running hot so the PSU fan is blowing at full capacity). the PC is very quiet on first boot but once my system starts overheating the PSU soon ramps up the fan speed and therefore the volume! (though this is obviously my own systems fault, and no fault of the PSU)
Cheers

If money is no object, get an Enermax one.
Top quality stuff with great guarantees.
My Enermax PSU is rated for 100,000 hours of continuous use (which is just over 11 years).
Never seen any problems with the voltage (i.e. no spikes).
