Hi,
I've got a D-Link 504 Rev B Broadband router which I have connected up to my other two 10/100 network switches in my house (anorak that I am). I've experienced increasing problems recently with the Router disconnecting from the LAN and sop to with the ISP. The only way to restore internet connectivity is to reboot the router device. This can happen several times in one evening and is driving nuts.

Anyone use one of these routers and experienced similiar problems.

I've contacted D-Link support and they have adivsed that I should apply the lastest firmware... which I've done to no avail.

Comment appreciated.

I know what u mean about the number of pc's connected. My PC's are NAT'd so the ISP only sees one PC connected.

Maybe I'm overloading the router :-(

I doubt you will be overloading the 504? How many computers are you running?

You say "Router disconnecting from the LAN and sop to with the ISP" - Would need more info? i.e. Are you saying that the router freezes or can you still communicate to the router via ping/web interface? Are saying the router actually loses connectivity to your switches (i.e. LAN Port LEDs go out).

Also, which ISP are you with? If you keeping loosing connectivity on your ADSL Line then you might want to change to PPPoA LLC Based instead of the common PPPoA VC Mux.

Roadrunner,
When I loose connection I can no longer PING the device. The only means by which I can contact it is via the Serial RS-232 interface. The console it brings up shows the router in a 'DEBUG' status where I then do a RESTART command to basically 'soft' boot it. If I leave this console open during a router crash then I get a chance to see the DEBUG code it thows up... which I might add, makes jack all sense!
I presume the ISP connection is ok as reconnecting after a reboot is ok.

One of the ports on the router is uplinked to another hub which has two PC's connected. By the fact this router advertises it can be 'uplinked' I would assume it can easily handle the extra traffic you could put through it.

K - the router appears to be locking up. So does this happen only when you only use the router or would you say it also happens when you are not using the router?

For example - Router works fine, you go to bed and the next morning you go to use the router and it has locked up.

DSL-504 can easily handle the average house hold of computers. One of the most common symptoms of overloading would be your computers would start to have their session dropped because the NAT engine could only handle x amount of concurrent sessions.

It always happens whilst use. And between the hours on 10pm - midnight. But its intermittent also.

Do you think I should forward my Debug logs to D-Link to see if they can decifer the code? ... check it out for yourselves:

I have an almost identical problem. 504 locks up during use and a hard reboot is the only way to recover. It is not as frequent as yours.
I tried cooling the 504 with a fan but this did not work, I then pointed the fan at the power supply and left Kazaa running over night without any problems. Mine is revision A and has a wireless router and a Netgear hub attached to run 6 PC's around the house.

Manufactures can only really decode debugging messages, however it does seem that the debug you posted resulted in a dns fatal error causing your router to crash.

As the latest config doesn't resolve the problem I therefore suggest you quest d-link to replace the unit.
