Wont work out of the box that far. You can use the coffee can trick, but then you'll be breaking the law I think

Erm, yes it will

I've installed WLAN backbones for sites up to 3km. I know one install covered 2.3km as we measured it using a GIS plot from the local council.

Using Cisco kit, you'd be looking at using Yagi 12.5dBi directional antennas with a good line of sight. A tried, tested and legal solution.

Chris.

Well if you're talking kit, then yes, I assumed common-or-garden ADSL modem which will not transceive that far on its own, especially through walls

Ahh, horses for courses is true Steve

You'd be looking at £2000 to £3000 for the hardware.

Hello

If you have line of sight, then the cantenna solution mentioned above will work fine.

I've been playing recently as it interests me and I can get that kind of distance with a dog food can and some modifications to my wireless network card.

Steve.
