Just a quicky.

I need to transfer users from a workgroup to a domain to improve security. This is preferable to the current setup ( v insecure ). However I need to add them from the workgroup without losing their cookies, desktops etc. I have tried it a few timees (network/add to domain etc) but it looses settings. I know its something to do with roaming profiles etc but not 100% sure. Have done some research but cant find much on it.

Much appreciated

Stu

Isn't all this info stored in user.dat???
If so,copy that to the 'new' domain profile once the user has logged on once and the profile has been created. (Obviously, you can't copy the user.dat to the 'new' account when the user is currently logged on as the user.dat is in use)
Hope this helps?

Good luck

Nick

P.S: Brain is currently in low power mode so ignore me if I'm wrong!!

There are a few types of "user" profiles.

Local and roaming. These can be standard (user.dat) or mandatory (user.man).

To change a standard profile to a mandatory profile simply remain the file to .MAN

Are you ok with the differences?

Have a look at:

It's heavy going but may help.
