i'm looking at buy myself a digital camera, any help would be greatly appreciated as i don't know what i'm looking for exactly. i was considering buying just a cheap one at about forty quid as i'd only be taking pic's at meets. i certainly don't want to spend more than £100.

Could try InternetCamerasDirect.co.uk, or Ebay, or even the Gadget online sites - they specialise in cheap cameras, usually very small ones, perfect for your needs.

If you find one suitable on a gadget-type site, check the prices with similar sites, as there are very large differences in prices between each site.

I'd highly recommend the Fuji Finepix a202. Its £125 from ICD but worth the extra. It takes great quality pics at 2 megapixels and has a good LCD screen too. Has digital zoom, but no optical.

A little over budget, but worth spending a little extra IMO.
