I currently run an Athlon 1400 CPU. Would an upgrade to an Athlon XP 2000 (max my mobo supports) yield a significant performance increase?

£45 you can't go wrong ... You'll see a bit quicker but nothing mind blowing

Have you looked for a bios upgrade for your motherboard?

If you haven't then its worth a look as your board could support an even faster processor If it supports a xp2000+ then in theory it could run anything bar the new bartons?

Yep, BIOS is patched. According to Pauls Unofficial Abit FAQ it will only take up to Athlon XP2000. Just wondered whether the speed increase from an old Athlon 1400 (not XP) to this one is worth 45 quid.
