Question

Hi,

My laptop runs XP Home edition. Its cooling fans only run when the processor is busy, so when the machine is idle they're usually off and battery life is good.

Today, though, there's a process called CISVC.EXE that's taking up 99% of the CPU time, and the fans are running flat-out. Killing this process pushes the remaining battery life from 40 minutes up to an hour and a half.

Can someone please explain what this process does (something to do with speeding up searches?) and how I can stop it wasting power again?

Ta
Andy.

Try these for reference, but it looks like you can turn it off, if you don't use the search
