How can i recreate a Global Catalog Server - Windows 2000
My network has lost its global catalog server. There were 2 domain controllers and one of them was the global catalog server. It got erased somewhere along the line and I need to get the other machine to take over as Global Catalog server.
All of the sites i've looked at only tell you how to do this when the current GC server is active, but I need to recreate it as i have no current GC anymore
anyone know how to do this or where i can look?
thanks

Go into AD Sites and Services tool, drill down to the site, the live DC and go into the properties of NTDS. Click on the little "Global Catalogue" box. Not in the office, so thats all from memory
He says "take over" which strikes me as odd as you can have multiple GCs which sort out the load together. For instance on our network we have about 100 DCs, 80 or 90 of which are GCs...
