I took delivery of my new 54Mps Wireless-G Router and PC Card yesterday.
I was well impressed. Installed the router upstairs where my broadband connection and my pc is, installed the PC card into my laptop and sat downstairs browsing the net and copying files between the pc and laptop.
The speed was faster than I imagined, my mate has Wireless-B and said it was pretty slow but the 54Mbpx wireless is rapid.
Just need a wireless AC adaptor now

I'll second that emotion
I bought the AirPort Extreme and Linksys PC cards, use it on a Mac / XP / W2k network.
No point in 802.1b now ! G although not offical ratified most of the manufactuers are offering firmware upgrades etc..
Speed is excellent and range is great (Garden, driveway)
Just make sure you use 128bit WEP keys and limit the connections to the MAC addresses of the cards you own !

I have already enabled the 128-bit WEP key.
I read somewhere that using 128-bit will be slightly slower than using the 64-bit key.
I have tried on both settings and to be honest I can't tell the difference.
Living room / back garden, it's cool. Now my missus doesn't mind me watching footy as she can sit downstairs on my laptop and surf

FYI
The 40bit WEP key has been cracked quite some time ago and although the 128bit is not 100% secure it does provide a better level of protection. If you want complete security turn it off !
As for speed I am sure you are right but for me the bottelneck is still the ISP connection 64k ISDN
I love the ability to use notebooks around the house/garden just like I would the cordless phone . . . and yes the sofa thing when Friends is on, becomes bearable.

There is no 40-bit WEP key with Wireless-G
You can only have 64 or 128-bit
I'm sure it'll be broken soon
Another option is only allow connections fro pre-registered MAC addresses.
Nothing is watertight, trick is just make it hard for them to get in.
