Of course You'll need X-Box Media Player. Latest version is 2.3 which can play from the DVD drive as well as from the hard Disk or from the network.
Drop me a mail and I'll email it to you.

Ahh, I see. Well IMO, yes. When chipped and the HDD is upgraded it turns into a totally different beast. A total entertainment centre
I have over 50 games on my HDD (of which I own all of them ) and about 20 full length DVD quality films, with room to spare for a load of albums too.
The price of a chip is only about £35. That is enough to allow you to run stuff from CD-RW or DVD-R, then you could choose to upgrade the HDD later.

Mine is chipped too.
I used the other chip to that which Dunk used, and installed a 120 gig IBM Deskstar (or is that Deathstar).
Fantastic for watching Jackass the other night

Hi Dunk,
Hope u dont mind me pestering - but u seem to be one of the forum experts on this sort of thing.
Just ordered a chip but a bit confused how you can get things like the media player & emulators etc. on the XB itself.
Do you need a DVD writer, link via the ethernet port to a PC or just burn a CD on a CD writer?
Lastly - can u play multi region DVD's (with an X-ecuter2 lite), or do u need something else?
Cheers Rich

Spent most of last night trawling around http://www.xbox-scene.com. It's still about as clear as mud as to what to do and because no one wants to get into trouble with MS (understandabley) all the web sites say "none of the files are hosted here & don't ask where you can get them from".
Having read pages and pages from their forum I've managed to find EvoX Auto Installer 2.0 which I'm currently d/l with Overnet.

Rich - Firstly I would recommend creating an EvolutionX boot disc - I can make one for you if you get stuck.
Once booted this allows you to FTP to the console from your PC via either a crossover cable to your network card or via your hub/router/switch. This is how I transfer all of my files, movies etc to the X-Box.
The X-Box will not read most brands of CD-R so ots always best to stick to CD-RW's or DVD-R's
If you need sites to download EvolutionX and the other apps please email me as they shouldn't be posted here.
I don't believe you can play multiregion with just the chip. There are a couple of ways to do this. One is to use DVD-X (mail me for this ) or alternatively its posible to change the region of the x-box by tinkering with the firmware, but I wouldn't advocate this.
If anyone needs any pointers please just email me with the follwing and I'll try to help:
1) What chip you have
2) Do you want to upgrade the HDD
3) Do you want to use X-Box Live
4) Do you want to play your games from the HDD
5) What you want to run on your X-Box
Cheers
