HI All,

well, after taking the hit of another round of contrac axes, I think I've decided to leave the contractor / rat race.

Anyone worked for any IT companies in the devon/cornwall area? I'l thinking of moving down there for a nicer pace of life..... and the twisty roads

esp. Solaris based companies would help

They're about to move, but they have an employment freeze on at the moment...

Mabey I'll try after the move when things have quietn'd down?

Met Office don't have much Solaris work anyway. But you could always switch to HP. All Unix isn't it ?

Not sure if there is an employment freeze though, more likely they don't want new people starting now so close to the move. But I guess they are still taking applications.

Cheers

Ian

The NHSIA are here too, as are Friends Provident and another financial lot.

IT is dire here though. My company are looking for Active Directory / Exchange 2K if that's any use (they'll be looking for 2 if I get myself something else sorted out )

yep we do use 'puters down 'ere ! but we maybe a step or 2 behind the rest of the country, so dont laff at our ZX81's & C64's

met office on the same estate as i am actually.

not a lot of big companies down here for larger scale UNIX i would say......

London Electric also moving down here next yr ? huge building going up atm just off the motorway and v close to the Met Office.

other than them its the likes of the councils who probably have the biggest IT Depts or the NHS.

and yep its a nice bit of the country, until the damn grockles invade us and u cant move for slow driving sunday drivers or the dreaded caravanner
