Can i get this as a install file on a CD from anywhere, or do i
have to go through the Windows Update site ?

dont think Ive seen it on a CD anywhere

but you can download the network install from Microsoft, this is about 120-130Mb, then you can burn it to cd yourself

I think SP2 is due out soon too

you can get xp sp1 on a cd in the latest copy of personal computer world (PCW) magazine
