I'm getting NTL's 600k broadband service on the 23rd and I want to use broadband on my PC (upstairs) and Xbox (downstairs).

Is anyone doing this at the moment, and if so is there anything special I need to do to get it all working. I'm going to get the cable modem installed near the pc but can I plug the Xbox directly into the set top box?

Any info is greatly received, thanks..

I'd be interested in finding this out as well as I'm currently in the same situation, except I have NTL Broadband already installed.

Thumbs up

I'd get the cable modem installed near the tv.

I've had NTL installed, modem is behind my tv, pc 1 is upstairs and pc 2 is downstairs.

I bought a D-Link 614+ Wireless Router. (22mbps). I have a PCI wireless D-Link card in each PC.

As for the XBox, you will need to use one of the ethernet ports on the router with a sufficient length ethernet cable. Hence it would be better nearer the TV.

Setting up was simple, you will need to adjust the config settings for security. The router has a firewall and supports up to 256 bit encryption.

Or if its not near enough to the modem, just get a wireless ethernet bridge and connect it straight to your XBox

I've got a simlar set up to MattW with a wireless router straight from the set-top box, the XBOX is connected via ethernet and the Laptop is wireless.

I haven't had any probelms at all this way and find the connection to XBOX live really fast.

PS the initial set-up and registering to XBOX live is a real pain in the ****, be prepared.

Sounds good so far. How much does all the wireless gear cost and where did you buy it from?

Red face

Word of warning guys, I used my Xbox and my PC through the same Cable Modem by swapping the cables round (I never use both at the same time), and found that use of the xbox blocked the MAC address of my PC Ethernet card
I had to change the ethernet card on the PC and then reconfigure the MAC address of the XBOX in the LIVE settings to the same as the PC.
Apparently this is a known problem with NTL's software blocking MAC addresses if they detect more than 1 from the same cable modem connection

I'm on the NTL Xbox trial at the moment. They supply 2 IP addresses and a hub. Works, but it's not what I want. I have the cable modem into a router with NAT, NTL and many others just see the router. Cable modem is upstairs in my office, Xbox is downstairs on the end of a long bit of cable witch NTL also supplied.

Wireless is a tad expensive for me

I guess it's going to be a router and a looooooong cable to the xbox then.
