I have a catalogue that lists a "USB Repeater Cable"

Acts a transparent USB hub and buffers traffic. 5m per cable, can join five together. £13.50 each.

Does this work?

Max length of a usb cable is officialy 5m. You could of course daisy chain them with a powered hub at each junction.

I am running USB at 10m - a 5m cable and a 5m repeater which is not powered, but is a little box.

It works OK if there is an independently powered device on the other end - it's been fine with a Palm, & a couple of MP3 players. However, it didn't work with my unpowered scanner or my digital camera, even with a powered hub at the far end !

I think its 5m per cable. This is cos the USB cable carries power as well as signal.

Due to an attempted break-in i have installed security cameras that are on USB and one is 6.5m from the PC. So i had to get a 3m cable plugged into the PC, connect a 2m cable to it and then connect the 2m cable to USB hub (powered) so i could then connect another 2m USB cable to the camera. I think i was told you can have up to 25m (5 hub type devices used) maximum on a connection.
