have you got a virus checker running or a software firewall?

virus applications (norton/macafee/etc) are the the most intrusive apps and I hate them. then again they're s'posed to be intrusive to keep your machine happy

anyway, stop them and your machine will be happier.

Thumbs up

Hi

If your hard disk is nearly full then every time you make space or add stuff to your disk you will be placing files onto the system in a defragmented state. Best thing you can do is clear off as much data as you can (a few gigs at least) and then do a full defrag.

Also sounds like Norton is trying to justify itself somewhat. Unless you're noticing a hit in performance and need superfast disk speeds maybe you neen't worry so much and place the defrag threshold higher. I have a 27Gb drive, almost full, and I defrag once every, errrr, 3 months! This is a gaming machine also. Bear in mind once a game is loaded into memory then performance would not be hit.

Or get a bigger HDD

hope this helps
Joolz
