Question

i have upgraded my pc as i blew the motherboard up on the old one and was forced for all sorts of reasons to go to WIn xp.Having got it i am quite impressed at the speed cf win98.
my problem is win 98 happily ran bt braodband.xp wont.!!!!!!!!!!!
what happens is bt connects up ok through the modem but xp says it cannot find the server. (xp installs IE6 automatically )
i wonder if its an ie6 problem....bt have been no help at all so far.
i also wondered if it is some sort of security certificate in ie6 thing but i dont understand all that.
my question is has anyone come across this problem or have a solution.?
i've searched microsofts site and its hopeless there is a hint the solution is in SP1 but i cant download it so i have asked for a cd with it on via snail mail.
in case your wondering how i can send this... i am using my lap top at work and the same bt broadband modem/connection that ie6 wont work with.

I had the same problem when installing win xp.

For my case, the TCP/IP (advanced) settings had to
match my ISP's requirements, so check their website support.
Also check if win xp hasn't disabled your modem/network
card. It did once on a friends' computer (?)

thanks both.did what you said still wouldnt go.Rang BT they were very helpful this time.
First they altered my sign on phone number that got me linked up ok ,but after 30mins, of trying to clear cache and pinging which didnt work.....IE6 still wouldnt work online.
In the end a chance comment by the bt help desk led me to uninstall my firewall. bingo i'm on line and it flies along.::
ps SP1 made no difference to the problem at all.
