Question

....anyone know how to get a *cheap* version of the above.

Our PC just has crappy versions of *paint* and the like.
Frustrating to say the least.

Should also try Paint Shop Pro, good shareware app.

Cut-down (but nevertheless, very capable) versions of Photoshop come with lots of scanners, cameras and so on, so the cheapest route might actually be to buy a cheap scanner and then flog it on EBay, keeping the s/w for yourself.

Have you tried GIMP? Free image manipulation software for Unix and Windows from www.gimp.org

Keep it legal chaps.

The best version for beginners is Photoshop Elements 2, which is around 80 quid and is both powerful and simple to use.
