I'm just looking into this whole broadband XBOX live thing, can someone answer the following question. I have my PC upstairs and will want to use the XBOX downstairs, can I connect the xbox directly into a modem which plugs straight into the BT point. It appears the xbox uses RJ45 connection and the modems I see that are being sent when you sign up to Broadband are USB. As I don't want to go via my PC to use XBOX live will I need a special modem.

Cheers

You need an ADSL router, like the one I just bought

I bought the D-Link DSL-504 which is compatible with X-Box Live.

Go wires-only broadband and buy an ADSL router instead of a USB Modem. The router does the job of both and has RJ45 ports for you to connect to your PC and X-Box at the same time

Just trying to get mine set up at the mo.

Dunk,

why wires only?

you suspect the wireless may be an issue?

I have a router and a wireless ap transmitting all over my flat.

The only way I could plug the xbox in was to get another wireless ap which has an rj45 out to plug directly into the xbox.

Am concerned you ahve said wires only now.

Red face

Sorry, by wires-only I meant that you buy the ISP's service only, not their hardware too. So that you get a choice of equipment to suit Wireless is a great way to connect your X-Box to your ADSL connection.

I went the route of having RJ45 wall sockets to connect to my router upstairs.

PS. Did you get the CD this morning Adam ?

Thanks for the advice,

Is there a list somewhere of which ADSL routers are compatible with X-Box Live?.
