MP3 - Cataloguing a Collection ??

If i had say, 250 Discs with a number of albums on each disc, is there an easy way to catalog them using a program of some sorts.
The file structure means that the albums are contained in a folder called d:\albumname and if an album has two discs, they would be d:\albumname\cd1 & d:\albumname\cd2
It would be great if there were some way of putting a disc into my machine , giving it a name (eg.. DISC251), and the program doing the rest. Then when i needed to pull out an old album, i could search for it someway??
Anyone any ideas, suggestions of good software to do a similar thing.
Going through each disc manually and putting it into a spreadsheet aint much fun
Cheers

I had a program that did something similar for floppy disks a long time ago. I think it was DOS only, and produced a text file containing the paths of all the files on the disk.
I'll try to dig it out if you like (no guarantee that I can find it, as I've moved house 3 or 4 times since I last saw it...) - not sure it will like CDs either.
I could do with something similar myself as well. I seem to have a moderate MP3 collection now.

I find the easiest way is like I do mine - I keep them in a directory structure
c:\music\artist\album\xyz.mp3
This means I can use the following command
dir /a:d /s /b > catalogue.txt
to generate a list of albums. I then just do a search replace on the resulting file, replacing c:\music\ with nothing, and replacing any remaining '\' slashes with ' - '. The resultant catalogue can be found here.

I had a similar problem - have an 80Gb drive with them catalogued below a music directory. I then just use the 'find file' on Explorer to find what I want below this and play on Winamp.
Be careful - I'm rapidly becoming a modern equivalent of a stamp collector, it's very addictive!
I have 2 PCs networked and both outputting to amps and speakers, effectively acting as CD jukeboxes.
only thing I haven't solved yet is getting a decent output from the computer. have audigy platinum but the optical out is digital only, i.e. not read by the amp. it's just connected up with a cheap 3.5mm jack to phone from Maplin at the minute.

Gordo, get an ethernet SliMP3 player, from www.slimdevices.com. It comes with its own Perl server for creating playlists etc and will output from any Hi-fi system. I havent played a CD since I bought it. They sell them in the Scoobyshop as well
