why do people wrongly name files they are sharing on p2p?
I've had loads of games and have found that when the game unpacks it is a completely different thing to what i wanted. For instance, i downloaded SOF2, the file name was SOF2, when i unpacked it and installed, it turned out to be some w@nky strategy game called stronghold.

Is it some kind of secret geek joke, or are people worried about displaying what they are actually sharing.

anyone else come across this?

i'm not that stupid (open to debate). i'm talking about the ones that have the correct filename, but are still something different.

the question is, whats the point of deliberately misnaming a file.

Scoty.. ps2 games are usually in pairs .bin & .cue and you can use something like cdrwin to burn them.

sometimes they are .iso and you can burn those with Nero.

Angry

I use winmx but been told of 3 others, but i too had that problem,
it said it was a mpeg.

and came down as a song no movie.
I think we need to look at the size more, also i think people get kicks out of it.

Kazaa went through a period of being random on the bit rate (i.e. downloading something you thought would be 128bps could be anything at all) but seems happy enough again now.

Haven't really had a problem downloading wrongly labelled tracks but there are a lot of random or misspelled names on there - I think it's the nature of the shear number of users, a fair percentage of them will be thick

Search on google for sig2dat and download

Run it

Go to http://kazaalite.brvk.net/bb/

Look in verifieds forum, and use the 'hashes' of the files to find exact copies of the file you need to download. Movies/games etc are listed there.

You may need to copy/paste the hash into Sig2Dat.

Restart Kazaa

The file(s) will appear in transfers.

It sometimes takes a while to start downloading as it needs to find sources (try find new sources a few times or just leave for a while...)

Success!!
Damian

PS. Fakes are often produced by Movie studios/Record labels to confuse consumers of the media and convince them that downloading doesnt work - This is why so called 'verified' files and sites listing the verifieds are becoming more and more popular - to stop monkeys putting up fakes on kazaa/grokster.

Thumbs down

Simple, don't use Kazaa. Its used by too many idiots who's sole purpose in life is to be childish and annoy people. Total waste of space, but at least it keeps the ***** off of the decent p2p software.

Use real mans software such as Direct Connect.

Scoty - Not really mate, strictly X-Box here

Plenty of stuff around though, stick to hubs with plenty of users and you can't go far wrong If it hasn't got what you want, try another one
